Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground (kick-off 14:00 BST). Emery says Jadon Sancho is progressing in his recovery from injury and they will assess the winger this weekend, meanwhile Alysson is back in training with the group.

Unai Emery addressed the media ahead of Aston Villa's crucial Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest this Sunday, providing key updates on his squad's fitness and the club's European ambitions.

In positive news for Villa's attacking options, Jadon Sancho is making steady progress in his recovery from injury. The winger will be assessed this weekend to determine his availability, while Alysson has also returned to full group training. Emery noted that several other players remain under evaluation as the team prepares for the trip to the City Ground.

With the race for the top four heating up, Emery emphasized the dual importance of their domestic and European campaigns. "The Premier League is our first priority," he stated, "but playing in Europe offers incredible possibilities for development and prestige. The amazing atmosphere we experienced with our supporters in Bologna is exactly what we're fighting for." Securing Champions League football remains a clear target for the ambitious Villans.

The manager also offered a strong defense of striker Ollie Watkins, who silenced critics with a brace in the recent European fixture. "He worked yesterday like he has all season," Emery said. "Maybe he needs others to help boost his numbers, but I am happy with his consistent performance and commitment to the team's task."

Midfield received a significant boost with the return of Youri Tielemans, whom Emery praised effusively. "When available, he performs with the same consistency and intelligence as last season. His teammates feel confident with him on the pitch, and he embraces his responsibility strongly." The club will monitor his recovery before finalizing his involvement against Forest.

Looking ahead to Sunday's opponents, Emery warned against underestimating a Nottingham Forest side under new management. "For different circumstances, they are not getting the points they deserve. They have a very good, experienced coach in Pereira. We have a lot of respect for the challenge that awaits us."
