Elmira High School senior Madison Smith has capped a brilliant high school bowling career by being named the Star-Gazette/Leader Girls Bowler of the Year for the second consecutive season, a fitting tribute to a leader who propelled her team to new heights.
Smith’s final campaign was a masterclass in consistency and clutch performance. She dominated the lanes with a Section 4-best 200 season average, serving as the anchor for an Express team that captured conference, sectional, and divisional crowns.
Her leadership was never more evident than in the postseason. Smith powered Elmira to the Southern Tier Athletic Conference (STAC) championship with a tournament-high 671 series, then led them to a repeat Section 4 Class A title. She saved her best for the biggest stages, rolling a division-best 1,448 series to secure the Section 4 Division I team qualifier victory.
The pinnacle of her high school journey came at the NYSPHSAA championships. There, Smith posted a stellar six-game series of 1,237, the third-highest score in the girls' Division I team competition and tops for Elmira. A highlight-reel 257 game underscored her talent as she guided the Express to a seventh-place finish among New York's elite.
With her high school legacy firmly established, Smith is now set to take her powerful game to the collegiate level. She has signed to continue her academic and bowling career at Division I Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland, where she will look to carry forward the championship mentality she honed with the Express.
