Pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez was announced as Wednesday's starter for the New York Yankees.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed the news on Tuesday's episode of the podcast Talkin' Yanks.

Rodriguez, New York's third-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline, will make his Major League debut on the road against the Texas Rangers.

Presumably, Rodriguez's start means that the Yankees will push Will Warren's next outing to this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles. Warren has started the season strong -- regardless, this is an exciting update for the Yankees and their fans.

"At 22 years and 254 days old tomorrow, Elmer Rodriguez will be the youngest player to pitch for the Yankees since Deivi Garcia in 2021," MLB.com's Sarah Langs wrote on X.

Garcia, now 26, made his big league debut at 21 years and 103 days old in 2020. Once a highly touted prospect, the right-hander last pitched in the Majors in 2024 with the Chicago White Sox and posted a 4.84 ERA across parts of three seasons (10 games) with the Yankees.

In four starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Rodriguez posted a 1.27 ERA with a .171 batting average against in 21.1 innings.

The Yankees acquired him from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for catcher Carlos Narvaez in December 2024.
