Paul Scholes has fired a clear warning to Manchester United: beat Manchester City to the signing of Elliot Anderson, or risk watching a superstar flourish across town. The Red Devils legend wants his former club to swoop in for Nottingham Forest's midfield magician this summer.
Anderson has been nothing short of sensational since swapping Newcastle United for the City Ground in 2024. At £35 million, the fee raised eyebrows at the time. But fast forward to today, and that deal looks like one of the sharpest pieces of business the Premier League has seen in years.
Operating as both a No.6 and a No.8, the 23-year-old's versatility has been a lifeline for Forest during a turbulent season. Four different managers have taken the reins, and at times the club flirted dangerously with relegation. Through it all, Anderson was the steady hand—often single-handedly keeping the Tricky Trees afloat.
Now, with Vitor Pereira steering them toward safety, Forest's controversial chairman Evangelos Marinakis holds all the cards. A price tag of around £100 million has been floated, and some believe they could push for a British transfer record. That's where Manchester City enters the picture. Pep Guardiola's side are reportedly leading the chase, but Scholes believes United must step up.
"I really liked him when he was at Newcastle," Scholes told talkSPORT. "Newcastle had to sell him with PSR and that kind of stuff. But what I've seen of him has been nothing short of brilliant. What he's done for Forest has really been Europa League level."
Anderson's stock has only risen with England, where Thomas Tuchel has labeled him an "elite footballer." He's set to play a key role at the World Cup this summer—and if United don't act fast, they might be watching him do it in sky blue.
