Elkhart's Madi Collins is reaching new heights—literally. The junior pole vaulter shattered her own school record at Tuesday's Northern Indiana Conference meet, clearing 11-0 at Rice Field. That's three inches higher than her previous mark of 10-9, proving she's not just defending her title, but elevating her game.
Collins wasn't the only Lion roaring. Rosell Robles dominated the 400 meters, Rylee Drummond soared in the high jump, and Brynlee Jellison powered through the shot put for first-place finishes. The team's depth paid off, securing third place overall with 117 points. Penn took the crown with 149, followed by South Bend Adams at 125.5.
Penn's Lila Van Hoveln was a force of nature, claiming individual titles in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Teammate Arianna Balinnang added a win in the 800, while the Kingsmen's 1,600 relay (featuring Kami Bauer, Quinn Driscoll, Aubrey Pfeiffer, and Zoya Turka) and 3,200 relay (Balinnang, Gabby Smith, Riley Holland, and Shreya Nayee) also topped the podium.
From sprints to relays, the competition was fierce. Jaidyn Kimbrough of Adams blazed through the 100 and 200 meters, while South Bend Washington's Adriana Swanson cleared hurdles with ease. The Lions' Brendayah Dale showed speed in both short distances, and the 400 relay saw Adams edge out Riley by just 0.29 seconds.
With performances like these, it's clear the NIC is a breeding ground for future stars—and Collins is leading the charge, one vault at a time.
