The Oakland A's are holding on to first place in the American League West—by the slimmest of margins. With just 20% of the MLB season in the books, they sit just one game ahead of the Seattle Mariners. It's a razor-thin lead, and with so much baseball still to play, it's far from secure. But for now, the view from the top is worth celebrating.

So, what's been the biggest positive so far? For many, it's Shea Langeliers. The catcher is doing exactly what fans hoped he would: building on last season's success and taking his game to the next level. Through today's action, he's tied for second in all of baseball with 38 hits, tied for fifth with eight home runs, and is batting .314 with a .933 OPS. Manager Mark Kotsay has moved him all around the upper half of the lineup, and Langeliers delivers every day.

On the mound, Aaron Civale leads the starters with a 3.23 ERA, followed closely by J.T. Ginn at 3.24 and Jeffrey Springs at 3.79. Springs leads the club in wins and quality starts (three each) and has logged the most innings so far with 35.2. What has surprised A's fans most about this year's pitching staff?

Elsewhere in A's news: another tough injury has landed Max Muncy on the IL with a fractured hand. Prospect Nick Kurtz is "starting to get back to himself"—a scary thought for opposing pitchers. Meanwhile, the hot start has fans wondering what it means for the 2026 trade deadline strategy. Denzel Clarke has been placed on the IL with a bone bruise in his foot, and outfielder Thomas has been recalled. Journeyman Kuhnel has found his place in the A's bullpen. And Lawrence Butler's rough start comes with a big asterisk.

Off the field, a former A's owner says Sacramento "should be in the mix" for MLB expansion. The A's top pitching prospects are dominating to start 2026, and top prospect Leo De Vries just popped his first two homers of the season at Double-A.

Enjoy some weekday A's baseball! Let's hear your thoughts.
