The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame is preparing to welcome a distinguished new class in June 2026, honoring five individuals who have left an indelible mark on the local sports landscape. This diverse group of inductees celebrates excellence across multiple disciplines, from the endurance of triathlon to the precision of placekicking and the dedication of coaching and officiating.

Leading the living athlete honorees is triathlete Michael T. Baker, whose remarkable career spanned over three decades and included more than 100 age-group titles and 18 overall triathlon victories. He is joined by Steven King Azar, a three-time All-American placekicker at Northern Illinois who set an astounding 18 school records, showcasing the power of specialized skill and consistency.

The coaching honor goes to Cesar Hugo Morales, the architect of a San Elizario cross country dynasty. Morales coached his teams to six state championships, including a stunning four-peat from 2014 to 2017, building a legacy of endurance and teamwork. His impact continues in his current role as the district's athletic director.

Rounding out the class are two pillars of sports integrity. Victor Maldanado is recognized for a 31-year career as a baseball official at all levels, coupled with 22 years refereeing football. The Hall also pays a posthumous tribute to Paul Njoroge Kamau, a national-champion runner for UTEP and a member of the Kenyan Olympic team in 1976. Though his Olympic moment was affected by a historic boycott, his speed and relay prowess cemented his legendary status.

The community will come together to celebrate these sporting legends at an induction banquet on June 24th at El Paso Community College. Their stories are a powerful reminder of the dedication, resilience, and passion that define athletic greatness, inspiring the next generation of El Paso competitors.
