The Las Vegas Raiders are on the verge of a major shakeup in the ownership box. Egon Durban, a powerhouse executive from Silver Lake, is steadily tightening his grip on the franchise. According to a Bloomberg report, Durban's group is set to acquire another 25 percent of the team, pushing their total stake to nearly 40 percent. The NFL's finance committee has already given the green light, and owners are expected to vote on the deal at next week's quarterly meeting.

This move is the latest chapter in a story that's been building for months. Earlier this year, Durban secured an option to buy controlling interest in the Raiders if and when current owner Mark Davis decides to sell. At the time, an unnamed source insisted Davis had "no intention" of parting with the team. But Davis's own recent comments suggest the door is more than ajar.

"I don't have any children or a wife at this time," Davis told Raiders.com's Paul Gutierrez back in April. "And so it was prudent to put together a succession plan that would make sure that there were no issues, should something happen to me or should I decide..." The trailing silence speaks volumes, leaving plenty of room for speculation about what comes next.

If Durban does take the helm, it could also boost the influence of minority owner Tom Brady. Some insiders believe the seven-time Super Bowl champion has been keeping his distance from the Raiders' day-to-day operations—perhaps focusing on his many business ventures and broadcasting commitments. But with Durban's growing stake, Brady might finally be nudged to fully embrace his role. The question now is whether he'll trade some of those cash grabs for a hands-on shot at steering the Silver and Black back to glory.
