In a masterful performance that showcased the kind of pitching the Arizona Diamondbacks have been desperately searching for, Eduardo Rodriguez silenced the Pittsburgh Pirates' bats in a commanding 9-0 victory on Tuesday night.

Rodriguez, now 3-0 on the season, was nearly untouchable over seven innings, scattering just two hits while striking out seven batters. The veteran left-hander's only blemish came in the fifth inning when Jared Triolo lined a two-out single to left field. For a Diamondbacks team that entered the game with a National League-worst 5.07 ERA, this was exactly the kind of performance they needed to turn their season around.

The game broke open in the sixth inning when Arizona erupted for five runs, turning a tight contest into a rout. Gabriel Moreno started the rally with an RBI double down the right-field line, followed by Geraldo Perdomo's two-run double. Ketel Marte added an RBI groundout, and Corbin Carroll capped the inning with a sacrifice fly. Pirates reliever Yohan Ramirez was tagged for all five runs while recording just one out.

Arizona had jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Adrian Del Castillo and an RBI double from Ildemaro Vargas. The 34-year-old Vargas, who was recently named the National League Player of the Month for March and April, continues to be a revelation with a .377 batting average and a 1.051 OPS this season.

On the other side, Pirates starter Bubba Chandler (1-4) struggled with command all night, walking six batters over five innings despite allowing just two hits. The young right-hander struck out four but couldn't overcome the free passes.

The Pirates were also without reliever Chris Devenski, who was suspended two games by Major League Baseball for intentionally throwing at Cincinnati Reds rookie Sal Stewart on Saturday. Manager Don Kelly served a one-game suspension for the same incident, with bench coach Kristopher Negron filling in.

The series continues Wednesday with an intriguing pitching matchup: Arizona's Michael Soroka (4-1, 4.70 ERA) faces Pittsburgh's Paul Skenes (4-2, 3.18 ERA).
