Edinburgh Rugby has pulled off a major coup, securing the signing of Scottish-qualified center Riley Higgins from the Hurricanes on a three-year deal starting next season. The club is heralding the move as one of its most significant pieces of recruitment in recent history, signaling a major ambition boost for the URC side.
The 23-year-old, New Zealand-born back qualifies for Scotland through his grandmother from Ayrshire and brings impressive versatility, capable of slotting in at inside center, outside center, or on the wing. His arrival is a statement of intent from Edinburgh, who fought off considerable competition for his signature.
Head coach Sean Everitt couldn't hide his excitement, stating, "Riley is an outstanding talent... He has already proven himself at the highest level in the southern hemisphere—a player who was keeping All Blacks out of the Hurricanes' starting lineup before his 24th birthday."
Everitt emphasized the significance of Higgins's choice, noting he turned down a potential All Blacks future and higher financial offers elsewhere to commit his future to Edinburgh and Scotland. "It tells you everything about his ambition to succeed here," Everitt added, highlighting the lengthy pursuit that finally brought the promising young star to the Scottish capital.
