Manchester United are reportedly preparing to make a significant move for Atalanta's midfield powerhouse, Ederson, as they look to fill the void left by Casemiro's expected summer exit. The Brazilian dynamo has emerged as a top target for the Red Devils, with the club's director of football, Jason Wilcox, believed to be a keen admirer of his combative style—think crunching tackles and relentless pressing.

According to a report from TuttoSport, relayed by Sport Witness, Juventus are also monitoring Ederson's situation, but it's United who are "pushing hard" to land the 26-year-old. Atletico Madrid have already agreed on personal terms with the midfielder, but their €35 million offer falls short of Atalanta's asking price. The Serie A side, however, would reportedly prefer to sell Ederson to United, who are willing to splash out as much as €45 million (£38.9 million)—a figure made more manageable by their Champions League qualification for next season.

United's financial muscle could give them an edge, with reports suggesting they're also prepared to offer a more lucrative contract than Atletico to bring Ederson to Old Trafford. But here's the twist: Ederson's profile is strikingly similar to that of Manuel Ugarte, another defensive-minded midfielder Wilcox chased and convinced to leave Paris Saint-Germain for United. Both players shine without the ball, using their athleticism and physicality to disrupt opponents, but neither is known for technical security or dictating play from deep.

While Ederson is slightly more athletic than Ugarte, his limited skill set with the ball at his feet raises questions. INEOS, United's ownership, should think twice before investing heavily in a midfielder who might not solve their need for tempo control. Still, the chase is heating up, and with Atletico stalling, United could be in pole position to secure the Atalanta star this summer.
