Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has opened up about the future of two key squad members, Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schär, offering insight into his decision-making as the season winds down.

Anthony Gordon, who has been an unused substitute in the Magpies' last two Premier League matches, has found himself on the bench amid swirling transfer rumors. Bayern Munich is among the clubs reportedly interested in the winger, but Howe insists the decision is rooted in strategy, not speculation.

"When you get to this stage of the season, part of what we will be doing will be looking to next year naturally," Howe explained. "Anthony has just come back from injury, I think the team has played well in his absence, and with a partial view to the future, yes."

The manager emphasized that team success comes first, stating, "If it's the right thing for the team, and I put the team and the club above any individual, then I would play him of course."

Meanwhile, veteran defender Fabian Schär faces an uncertain future as his contract expires this summer. Currently sidelined with an injury that has limited his impact this season, the Swiss international remains a valued member of the squad.

"Fabian has still got a lot to offer on the pitch, his qualities I think are still very much there," Howe said. "He's had a difficult season this year. He picked up a serious injury but he's contributed so much. We'll have discussions I'm sure with him and his representatives in the next week."

As Newcastle looks to build on their momentum, these decisions will shape the squad for the challenges ahead. Whether it's integrating youth or retaining experienced leaders, Howe is clearly planning for both the present and the future—a balancing act every top club must master.
