The Magpies are set to host Brighton at St. James' Park this weekend in what promises to be a pivotal clash for Newcastle's 2025/26 campaign. After four consecutive league defeats, Eddie Howe's side will be desperate to turn their fortunes around in their second-to-last home game of the season.

In a much-needed boost for the squad, Howe has confirmed that Anthony Gordon could be available for selection after missing recent matches against Bournemouth and Arsenal due to injury. The dynamic winger has been sorely missed, and his potential return adds a spark of creativity to Newcastle's attack. "He did part of a session on Wednesday. It was great to see him back on the pitch. He's a player of huge quality and one that we've missed," Howe said in Friday's pre-match briefing. "We'll make an assessment on his fitness closer to the game and see what he gets through today."

Adding to the positive news, Joelinton is also back in contention after serving a two-match suspension. The Brazilian midfielder's physical presence and energy could be crucial as Newcastle looks to regain momentum.

Howe emphasized the importance of maintaining the performance level shown against Arsenal, despite the result. "We need to keep the level of performance where it was against Arsenal. The team looked good, it looked confident, it defended well. I think it was a big upturn," he noted. "We need to back that up at home, our home form has not been strong enough. A lot riding on this weekend for us."

The manager also addressed the situation surrounding forward Yoane Wissa, who has struggled to find his best form since returning from an injury sustained in September. "Yoane's only issue has been the injury he suffered. When he returned, he wasn't physically able to deliver the quality of performance he traditionally has done in the Premier League," Howe explained. "There's no doubting the quality of the player, but can we get him in a physical condition to deliver his best performances before the end of the season? That's been the challenge." The good news is that with the squad now training in larger groups, Wissa is showing signs of improvement. "Since we've returned to full team training, I think we've seen a big lift in his performances. As long as he continues to show that upward trajectory, I think we'll see the very best of him in the future."

With key players returning and a renewed focus on home form, Newcastle fans have reason to be optimistic as they prepare for a crucial showdown against Brighton. The stage is set for a thrilling encounter at St. James' Park.
