Bayern Munich's contract negotiations with midfielder Konrad Laimer have hit a standstill, and the club's sporting director, Max Eberl, has provided a candid update on the situation. The Austrian international, who arrived at the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2023, has become a key squad player thanks to his versatility and relentless work rate on the pitch. However, with his current deal running until June 2027, the two sides are struggling to find common ground on a new agreement.
"There are two positions that don't align at the moment. We want to extend Konni's contract, that's a fact. Now we somehow have to find a way to bridge the gap regarding their expectations," Eberl explained on the sidelines of Bayern's recent clash with VfL Wolfsburg.
At the heart of the issue is a significant financial gap. Reports indicate that Laimer, currently earning around €8–9 million per year, is seeking a salary closer to €15 million annually—a figure Bayern are unwilling to meet as they enforce stricter financial discipline. By the time his current contract expires, Laimer would be 30, adding a layer of complexity to the club's long-term planning.
The situation has drawn comments from Bayern's honorary president, Uli Hoeneß, who didn't mince words. "Konny is a player I greatly value. He's extremely important for the team, as well as for the club's public image. He works incredibly hard for the team," Hoeneß told DAZN. "But he's simply not Maradona. And players like that have to accept that there are limits."
Despite the ongoing deadlock, Eberl emphasized that the relationship between the club and the player remains professional and positive. "There's absolutely no bad blood," he assured. As Bayern look to maintain their competitive edge while balancing the books, Laimer's future remains a storyline to watch—especially for fans who appreciate the grit and determination he brings to the midfield.
