Eau Gallie softball made a powerful statement in the opening round of the Class 4A state tournament, cruising past Seabreeze with a dominant 10-0 victory in the Region 2 quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 6. As the top seed, the Commodores showed why they're a force to be reckoned with, combining sharp hitting with stellar pitching to advance to the regional semifinals.
Senior pitcher Jordan Stout was the star of the show, throwing a complete-game shutout that lasted just five innings thanks to the mercy rule. Stout allowed only two hits while striking out nine batters—her third-highest strikeout total of the season. She stranded Seabreeze runners on base in four of the five innings, including a perfect second inning where she struck out the side.
"I think we did pretty well. I feel like there were definitely some things that we need to work on," Stout said after the game. "I feel like we were just a little bit nervous, but other than that I feel like we adjusted really well from our first at-bat to the second and third at-bats."
The Commodores' offense was efficient, scoring in three of the four innings they batted. Stout credited her success to extra work after a previous off performance. "I felt like I had an off game the game before this, so this past week I've sat there and worked on the stuff I was doing wrong. I feel like I just really found my spins and found my rhythm."
With this commanding win, Eau Gallie continues its march toward a potential state title. For young athletes looking to channel their inner Jordan Stout, the right gear can make all the difference—from cleats that provide grip on the mound to gloves built for precision. The Commodores are proving that preparation and focus are the keys to postseason success.
