History has been made in Baker, West Virginia. For the first time ever, the East Hardy Cougars boys basketball team has claimed an area championship, capping a remarkable season defined by resilience and teamwork.

The Cougars' journey was nothing short of spectacular. They finished with a 21-5 record, piecing together a dominant 16-game winning streak that propelled them to their third consecutive state Final Four appearance. While their run ended in the semifinals, the season was immortalized by securing that long-awaited first area crown.

A major key to their success was the full-time return of standout guard Mason Hamilton. The team's record with a healthy Hamilton in the lineup? A perfect, unblemished run. His comeback story fueled the squad's incredible second-half surge.

"That's great," said head coach Chris Hahn. "Any time you can get a team honor, and I think this group deserves it probably more than any group around... they complemented each other and nobody was selfish. It's just great to see the kids get the recognition for all the work that they're putting in. First time in East Hardy basketball history."

The championship was awarded based on the final Area Top 5 media poll, where East Hardy earned four first-place votes and 28 total points, edging out Fort Hill (23 points). The poll celebrates the top teams across Allegany, Garrett, Mineral, Hampshire, Grant, and Hardy counties.

This victory marks only the second area title in school history, joining the legendary 2006 baseball team that finished 29-2.

On the court, the Cougars were a force, led by their 6-foot-7 center Gideon Good, who averaged a double-double with 17 points and nearly 12 rebounds per game, plus five blocks. His presence in the paint was overwhelming, especially in two critical games against rival Fort Hill where he combined for 45 points, 27 rebounds, and 11 blocks.

The supporting cast was equally vital. Evan Hamilton was a two-way terror, averaging 13.2 points and 4.4 steals. Mason Hamilton added 10.7 points per game upon his return, while Trevor Roof, Aubrey McCullough, and Joseph Price provided consistent scoring and rebounding depth.

The season's turning point is a testament to their grit. Starting a modest 5-4 while Mason Hamilton recovered from off-season surgery, the team found its identity. After a hard-fought overtime loss to Fort Hill in Hamilton's January return, the Cougars clicked, embarking on that 16-game win streak and writing a new, championship chapter for East Hardy basketball.
