In a display of pure power at the plate, No. 5 East Hardy crushed three home runs to secure an 8-4 victory over Petersburg on Monday. The Cougars, now boasting a 17-8 record, erupted for five runs in the third inning, with the Hamilton brothers stealing the show.
Evan Hamilton launched a two-run homer to right field, giving East Hardy a 3-1 lead. Just three pitches later, his brother Mason followed suit with a solo shot to the same side, electrifying the home crowd. Levi Price added to the offensive onslaught with a two-run blast to center field in the bottom of the fourth.
On the mound, Shayne Sisler delivered a solid performance, tossing six innings while allowing three earned runs on six hits. The right-hander struck out five without issuing a walk, keeping Petersburg at bay. For the Vikings (9-17), Kaleb Kuhn took the loss, giving up five earned runs over six frames with five strikeouts.
Petersburg looks to bounce back Tuesday at Spring Mills before hosting No. 2 Hampshire (13-10) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, in Keyser, Landon Tysinger was in total command, firing six innings of one-run ball to lead the Golden Tornado to a mercy-rule win over Berkeley Springs. Tysinger allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out two, improving Keyser's record to 10-15.
At the plate, Tysinger helped his own cause with two hits, joining teammates Lucas Williamson and Cam Larkin in the multi-hit club. Hunter Harr provided the big blow, crushing a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach.
The Golden Tornado now sets its sights on a Wednesday showdown at No. 5 East Hardy (16-8), with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
