In April, reports had started to indicate that the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots were definitely going to get a deal done for AJ Brown. The expectation is for that to happen in the early stages of June, as the post-June 1 cap hit would ease things for the Eagles.

The AJ Brown trade saga between the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots has been one of the most talked-about storylines this offseason—but despite the buzz, the deal isn't quite finalized yet.

Rumors first swirled back in April that the two teams were on the verge of a blockbuster trade for the star wide receiver. The expectation was that the move would come together in early June, when post-June 1 cap treatment would provide the Eagles with some much-needed financial flexibility. And given the Eagles' recent roster moves—trading up to draft wideout Makai Lemon, adding other pass-catchers, and general manager Howie Roseman's mostly tepid comments about Brown's future—it certainly seemed like a done deal.

But according to the latest reports, nothing is set in stone just yet.

ESPN's Adam Schefter weighed in on the situation during a Tuesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, offering a nuanced update. "The Patriots want Brown. And the Eagles are willing to move on from Brown. And I expect that this trade will come together on June 1," Schefter said. "Neither side is committed to it, but both I believe are expected to make it happen. They'll revisit it. It's not going to be hard to get done. The Eagles are open to moving him, the Patriots want him, and I believe in the end it will involve a future first-round draft pick. My guess is 2028, but let's see what the two sides finally figure out there in the end."

So while the framework seems clear, the actual ink hasn't dried. Schefter's comments suggest the deal is more of an expectation than a certainty—a subtle but important distinction for fans tracking the offseason.

One thing to keep in mind: star wide receivers don't come cheap. If the Patriots think they can land Brown for a bargain, they might be in for a surprise. Trades of this magnitude typically command significant draft capital, and a 2028 first-round pick would be a hefty price tag. Still, with both sides motivated and the pieces seemingly in place, it's hard to imagine this one falling through entirely.

For now, Eagles fans and Patriots fans alike will have to wait just a little longer to see if this blockbuster becomes official. But the pieces are definitely on the board—and the clock is ticking toward June 1.
