After a pair of heartbreaking one-match losses, the Joplin Eagles boys tennis team responded in dominant fashion, sweeping Neosho 9-0 on their home courts Thursday. The commanding victory showcased the team's depth and resilience as they bounced back in style.

The tone was set early in doubles play. The top-seeded duo of Sejong Kim and Taylor Schlag delivered a flawless 8-0 performance, while the teams of Jack Delman/Lewis Jackson and Adan Villanueva Reyes/Nicolas Brady secured convincing wins to complete the doubles sweep.

That momentum carried straight into singles, where the Eagles were relentless. Kim and Schlag continued their perfect day with 8-0 shutouts, and Delman, Jackson, Emerson Eminger, and Villanueva Reyes all secured decisive victories to complete the 9-0 team shutout. It was a statement win that improved the Eagles' record to 6-3.

What makes this season's success notable is the team's ability to reload. After graduating four top players, head coach Ben Coltharp emphasized building mental toughness and athleticism from day one. "We tried to set an expectation and a tone," Coltharp said, highlighting the program's standard of giving 100% on every point.

A key addition has been transfer Sejong Kim, who has stepped into the crucial No. 1 singles spot. "He’s been a great help to the team, not only skillwise but as a great leader," Coltharp noted, underscoring how new talent has seamlessly integrated to fuel the team's engine.

The Eagles now turn their focus to a major test: hosting the Joplin Interstate Tournament. With 16 teams, including strong squads from the Kansas City area, the competition will be fierce. After Friday's pool play across multiple local venues, the top finishers will battle in the champions bracket on Saturday, offering the Eagles a perfect opportunity to prove their mettle against elite competition.
