Dylan Raiola is navigating a new reality in Eugene this spring: life as a backup quarterback. After two seasons as the starter at Nebraska, the former five-star recruit is now learning behind Oregon's established QB1, Dante Moore, embracing a role that requires a significant shift in mindset.

"You've got to humble yourself," Raiola admitted after a recent practice. "It took a couple of practices to get used to it, but it's all learning. Our whole room's goal is to help Dante get where he wants to go, and he's a great person to learn from."

This is a strategic, long-term play for Raiola. Despite putting up solid numbers at Nebraska—2,000 yards, 18 touchdowns, and a 72.4% completion rate before a leg injury ended his 2025 season—he chose to transfer to a program where he'll likely redshirt in 2026. The plan sets him up to potentially take the reins of a high-powered Oregon offense in 2027, using this season to absorb the system and refine his game without the immediate pressure of starting.

It wasn't an easy decision, especially given his deep family ties to Nebraska football. His father, Dominic, was an All-American lineman for the Huskers, and his uncle, Donovan, was recently on the coaching staff. Yet, Raiola believes this challenging transition is the right move for his development, viewing his past starting experience as a foundation to build upon.

"I'm very grateful for my time in Nebraska," he said. "But you can't emulate game-speed reps. I'm using all those experiences for learning to propel not only myself but this team forward when my time comes." For now, his focus is on preparation, patience, and supporting his teammate—a testament to the discipline and team-first attitude that defines great players, on and off the field.
