Paulo Dybala's future hangs in the balance as the Argentine star prepares for a pivotal meeting with Roma directors today. The 32-year-old forward and his agent, Carlos Novel, will sit down with club officials to discuss a potential contract extension, with his current deal set to expire on June 30.
This meeting comes after Dybala hinted last week that his time in Rome might be coming to an end. Following Roma's Serie A match, the player known as "La Joya" admitted he expected these to be his final games in the Giallorossi jersey, as negotiations have stalled. Boca Juniors, his boyhood club in Argentina, are waiting in the wings, hoping to bring him back to South America.
Despite a season plagued by injuries, Dybala has still managed to contribute three goals and five assists in 25 competitive appearances this campaign. His return to fitness has come at a crucial time, as Roma push for a Champions League spot under new coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Dybala joined Roma as a free agent in 2022 after stints at Palermo and Juventus, quickly becoming a fan favorite at the Stadio Olimpico. Gasperini, who replaced Claudio Ranieri, is reportedly pushing hard for the club to offer Dybala a renewal. The coach's influence has grown following recent backroom changes, including the imminent departure of sporting director Frederic Massara.
Dybala isn't the only Roma player with an uncertain future. Lorenzo Pellegrini, Stephan El Shaarawy, and Zeki Celik are also approaching the end of their contracts this summer, making this a critical period for the club's squad planning.
