Justin Kluivert is back, and the timing couldn't be better.
The Netherlands forward has returned to full training with Bournemouth after a four-month battle with a knee injury, just in time to stake his claim for a spot in the World Cup. Manager Andoni Iraola confirmed Friday that the 27-year-old is expected to be in the squad for this weekend's Premier League clash against Fulham—his first action since early January.
Kluivert's comeback is a massive boost for the Cherries, who currently sit sixth in the table with just three games remaining. That spot would secure Europa League football next season, and having a player of Kluivert's caliber back in the mix could be the edge they need to finish strong.
The injury happened in heartbreaking fashion. During Bournemouth's 3-2 loss to Arsenal on January 3, Kluivert went down with a left knee issue that required surgery just days later. Before that setback, he had scored two goals this season and was finding his rhythm in the Premier League. He's been training with the team for the past two weeks, and now he's ready for game action.
For the Dutch national team, Kluivert's return is especially significant. The son of legendary striker Patrick Kluivert, he made his long-awaited return to the Oranje squad under coach Ronald Koeman in November 2024, ending a six-year absence from international duty. With the World Cup looming, every healthy and in-form attacker is a precious asset.
The Netherlands open their World Cup campaign on June 14 against Japan in Group F, with Sweden and Tunisia also standing in their way. If Kluivert can get a few Premier League minutes under his belt before then, he could very well earn a ticket to the biggest stage in football.
For now, all eyes are on Craven Cottage this weekend. Welcome back, Justin.
