The future of LIV Golf may be clouded with uncertainty, but one of its biggest stars isn't sweating it. Dustin Johnson, the two-time major champion and former world No. 1, made it clear at LIV Golf Virginia that he believes the tour has staying power, even as questions swirl about its long-term funding.
This week's stop at Trump National Washington saw Lucas Herbert claim his first LIV individual trophy with a wire-to-wire win, four shots clear of Sergio Garcia. Johnson finished tied for 18th, but his most significant moment came off the course, where he was asked about the tour's future beyond 2026—the year the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) is set to end its backing.
"I mean, LIV obviously, I think we're in a pretty good spot," Johnson told the media. "Just look at our events, look at the players we got. So I'm confident in the people running the show that we will continue on. Yeah, I think all the guys, we really love being out here."
It's a vote of confidence from one of golf's most recognizable names, especially as the tour pushes forward with its global schedule. Next up is LIV Golf Korea at Asiad Country Club later this month, but before that, Johnson heads to the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, where he received a special invitation to compete.
Johnson also had high praise for Anthony Kim, who turned heads with a final-round 10-under at LIV Virginia, finishing tied for sixth. "I played with him, so obviously he played really well," Johnson said. "Even the couple times he got out of position, he hit pretty good pitches and holed the putt. He hit a lot of nice shots, but holed some really nice putts for par—which I think sometimes they're bigger than the birdie putts."
Kim's performance wasn't just about individual glory—he also played a key role in helping Johnson's 4Aces GC squad win the playoff hole against Fireballs GC. It's the kind of team-first energy that LIV has been banking on, and with stars like Johnson leading the charge, the tour's future might be brighter than the headlines suggest.
