Duke football is locking in the architect of its resurgence. Head coach Manny Diaz, who led the Blue Devils to their first outright ACC championship in over six decades, has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Durham through the 2032 season.
The announcement from Athletic Director Nina King comes on the heels of a landmark season where Diaz's squad captured the conference crown with an overtime victory over Virginia, a feat not accomplished since 1962. "Manny Diaz is exactly the right leader at exactly the right time for Duke University," King stated, praising his vision and alignment with the program's goals for sustained success.
In just two seasons at the helm, the 52-year-old Diaz has rapidly rebuilt Duke into a formidable ACC contender. The Blue Devils have secured nine-win campaigns in both years, including a 6-2 conference record this past season that propelled them to the title game. The program's momentum is undeniable, having also won a bowl game for the third time in four years and claiming bragging rights as "state champions" with consecutive season sweeps of NC State, Wake Forest, and rival UNC.
This extension signals a bright and stable future for Duke football, ensuring the culture of excellence Diaz has instilled will guide the Blue Devils for years to come.
