England opener Ben Duckett scores an unbeaten 203 as Nottinghamshire's County Championship game with Surrey ends in a draw.

Ben Duckett delivered a masterclass in red-ball batting, smashing an unbeaten 203 to guide Nottinghamshire to a hard-fought draw against title rivals Surrey in a gripping County Championship Division One clash at Trent Bridge.

The England opener's decision to prioritize domestic cricket ahead of the home international season continues to pay dividends. Duckett has now amassed 503 runs in just seven innings this campaign, and his latest knock—a stunning double century featuring 23 boundaries and a six—marked his sixth first-class double hundred. It was also his first Championship century since April 2024, though he's only made five appearances for Notts in that span.

Coming to the crease with Nottinghamshire trailing by 34 runs on first innings, Duckett anchored the response with unwavering composure. His 203 came off more than six hours of patient, punishing cricket, helping the defending champions declare at 414-4—a lead of 380. The sides shook hands at 16:50 BST, each taking 13 points from the match, enough to keep Nottinghamshire top of Division One after five rounds.

While the contest lacked the high drama of last September's championship decider at the Kia Oval—where Notts ended Surrey's three-year title reign—it still delivered plenty of quality cricket. Joe Clarke's first-innings 129 came in the toughest batting conditions of the match, with Surrey's Dan Worrall exploiting the movement to claim 6-73 on his season debut after injury.

England prospect Josh Tongue (4-89) produced the standout bowling performance for Surrey in their first innings, but Dom Sibley's gritty 77 and Dan Lawrence's sublime 104—his third hundred of the season—kept the visitors in the game.

Nottinghamshire resumed day four at 99-1, just 65 runs ahead, knowing Surrey would push hard for early wickets. But only one breakthrough came before lunch—Jordan Clark trapping Ben Slater caught behind for 50 off a thin edge, the left-hander's tally now past 500 for the season. From there, Duckett took control, ensuring the draw was never in doubt.

For cricket fans and apparel enthusiasts alike, this match was a reminder of the grit and grace that defines the County Championship—and of the players who make it must-watch cricket.
