Ever since the February trade deadline sent ripples through the NBA, the Golden State Warriors have been linked to adding another All-Star caliber player to support two-time MVP Stephen Curry. Now, Warriors forward Draymond Green has thrown a blockbuster idea into the mix: pursue Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers.
On a recent episode of "The Draymond Green Show," Green didn't hold back his thoughts. "You talk about the Golden State Warriors, who have won championships; you have to look at the Los Angeles Clippers in the fifth spot and say, 'Huh, what are they going to do?'" he mused. "Are they going to draft the fifth pick and put him next to Kawhi Leonard, or are they going to move Kawhi Leonard, try to get more draft assets, and start a rebuild?"
Green's reasoning taps into the shifting landscape of the NBA. After last season's trades of Ivica Zubac and James Harden, all signs point to the Clippers beginning a full-scale rebuild. The No. 5 overall pick in the upcoming draft certainly helps Los Angeles on that front, but Green sees an opportunity for the Warriors to swoop in. Golden State's No. 11 pick could supplement the Clippers' rebuild further, giving them two lottery selections in what appears to be a loaded 2026 NBA Draft class.
For the Warriors, adding Leonard—a two-time Finals MVP known for his defensive prowess and clutch scoring—could reignite their championship aspirations. Pairing him with Curry and a supporting cast that includes Green and rising talents might just be the formula to recapture their dynasty magic. As the offseason heats up, all eyes will be on whether Golden State's front office heeds Green's call.
