Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is standing firmly behind head coach Mike Vrabel, dismissing any notion that the recent photo scandal involving the coach and sports reporter Dianna Russini is a distraction for the team.

"He's our head coach," Maye, 23, told the Associated Press on Wednesday. "I think he's done a great job of talking to us and talking us through it. I'm just looking forward to getting back to work and getting ready."

The young signal-caller didn't stop there, adding, "I think that'll take care of itself. I know he's got the right mindset, and I know he's a great human being. I love playing for him."

Maye's comments come on the heels of a bombshell report from TMZ claiming that Vrabel, 50, and Russini, 43, rented a private boat together for a day in June 2021—back when Vrabel was head coach of the Tennessee Titans. According to a source with direct knowledge, the two were the only people aboard during the rental period. At the time, Russini was pregnant with her first child, whom she shares with her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt. The couple married in 2020.

This isn't the first time Maye has voiced his support for his embattled coach. Last week, he told WHDH-TV 7News in Boston, "We're here for Coach, we love Coach. What he does for us, what he's done for us this past year, you can't speak into words. Thankful he's our head coach."

The quarterback added, "Know he's dealing with some off the field and out of the coaching world, but we're here for him and I know he's gonna come back."
