The two Goklden Knights forwards have put their slumps behind them as Vegas defeated the Ducks in overtime 3-2 to win Game 5 and take a 3-2 series lead.

The Vegas Golden Knights are one win away from the Western Conference Finals, and they have two suddenly red-hot forwards to thank. After a frustrating scoring drought had fans scratching their heads, Pavel Dorofeyev and Tomas Hertl have rediscovered their touch at the perfect time.

Dorofeyev was the hero Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena, scoring a power-play goal in the first period and then delivering the game-winner 4:10 into overtime as Vegas edged the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in Game 5. The victory gives the Knights a 3-2 series lead heading into Thursday's Game 6 at Honda Center.

What made Dorofeyev's performance even more impressive was his resilience. In the second period, he took a hard shot block that sent him hobbling to the locker room. But he returned to the ice and positioned himself perfectly in front of the net to knock home Jack Eichel's rebound for the overtime winner.

"The puck seems to find him," said Knights coach John Tortorella. "He's a good two-way player."

Defenseman Rasmus Andersson praised Dorofeyev's willingness to sacrifice his body, especially with Brayden McNabb sidelined after a first-period game misconduct. "Sometimes you have to block a shot. For him to come back and score the game-winner in overtime, it's big."

Dorofeyev, who led the Knights with 37 goals during the regular season, now has seven in the playoffs. His first-period goal came after he chased down a loose puck in the Anaheim zone, won a battle along the boards, and beat goaltender Lukas Dostal with a wrist shot over the shoulder.

"That's what I got to do. Just my job," Dorofeyev said modestly after the game.

The timing couldn't be better for Vegas. After a slow start in the opening round against Utah that left Dorofeyev wondering if he'd ever score again, both he and Hertl have found their rhythm. With a chance to close out the series on Thursday, the Golden Knights will look to their newly confident forwards to lead the way.
