Dominick Barlow discusses filling in for Joel Embiid as the Philadelphia 76ers now move forward into the playoffs.

The Philadelphia 76ers are heading into a heavyweight first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics, but they'll be doing it without their reigning MVP, Joel Embiid. The star center is sidelined following an appendectomy, leaving a massive void in the lineup. While the team posted a 21-23 record without him during the regular season and secured their playoff spot via the play-in tournament, the postseason is a different beast entirely.

Stepping into this high-pressure situation is Dominick Barlow, a player whose journey from a two-way contract to a standard deal embodies the "next man up" mentality. In his 71 regular-season appearances, Barlow averaged 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds, providing valuable minutes. Now, his role expands exponentially.

At Friday's practice, Barlow acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence drawn from experience. "Obviously, we want big fella out there, wishing him a speedy recovery," Barlow stated. "But we played this team without him, and we've kind of seen what it looks like. The intensity is going to be higher... but we kind of have a reference point."

His focus is on translating that regular-season data into playoff production, particularly on the boards where Philadelphia will need all hands on deck against a physical Celtics team. Whether sharing the frontcourt with Andre Drummond or Adem Bona, Barlow's energy and decisiveness will be critical.

"I think just being more decisive," Barlow explained, reflecting on his recent play-in performance. "I felt like last game, I wasn't as decisive in my decision-making... looking at areas where I could have attacked." For the Sixers to compete, they'll need Barlow to attack the glass, find his spots offensively, and play with the relentless force that defines playoff basketball.
