The 2026 NFL Draft concluded on Saturday, and even though the Miami Dolphins added thirteen new players via the selection process — and many more as undrafted free agents — that won’t stop the powers-that-be (or, you know… journalists) from proactively adding even more players via way-too-early 2027 NFL Draft mocks.

One such mock came out on Monday morning — and Daire Carragher from Pro Football Focus has the Dolphins passing on adding a new rookie quarterback at pick #2, and instead has them drafting a potentially generational wide receiver with the pick instead.

Jeremiah Smith — wide receiver from Ohio State — was the selection for Miami. Here is Carragher’s reasoning:

“Jeremiah Smith has been viewed as a future blue-chip prospect since arriving at Ohio State. Carnell Tate was selected fourth overall despite Smith comfortably outproducing him over the past two seasons. This 20-year-old has the size and athletic profile of a Hall of Famer, with 27 touchdowns in just two years.“

Malik Willis joined the Dolphins this offseason and projects to be their starting quarterback for at least the next two seasons. Nabbing a beast like Smith at wide receiver in next year’s draft would provide the young quarterback with a truly dynamic weapon who could reshape Miami’s roster in dramatic fashion.

Of course, next year’s draft is a full year away — and many football games will need to be played in the meantime. Will the Dolphins play poorly enough in 2026 to find themselves picking high enough in 2027 to grab a prolific skill position player like Smith? And if they do, would replacing Willis be the first order of business for general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and company?

These are questions that will need to be answered in the upcoming season, but until then, it’s at least fun to dream.
