The Miami Dolphins are quietly building a war chest for the future, and their 2027 NFL draft stock just got a little deeper. Originally slated to have seven picks in that year's draft, the Dolphins have now added an eighth selection to their arsenal.
According to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the team recently secured an additional seventh-round pick after conditions were met from a previous trade. This pick originally came from the New York Giants as part of the Darren Waller trade last year. While the exact terms of those conditions remain undisclosed, the result is clear: Miami now has more flexibility on draft day.
Breaking down the Dolphins' 2027 draft haul, they now hold their own selections in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds. On top of that, they've added the Pittsburgh Steelers' fifth-round pick—acquired through the complex Jalen Ramsey-Minkah Fitzpatrick-Jonnu Smith trade chain—while sending their original seventh-round pick in that same deal.
This move comes on the heels of a busy 2025 offseason where Miami added 13 rookies to the roster. With an eye on making significant splashes next year, the draft will be a critical tool for general manager Chris Grier. Having eight picks in 2027 gives the Dolphins the ammunition to either reload with young talent or package selections to move up for a game-changing player.
For a team looking to stay competitive in the AFC East, every pick counts—and Miami is making sure they have plenty to work with.
