While the beginning of the MLB season is a time for teams around the league to settle in, it didn’t take long for Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara to find his groove. The Marlins’ ace threw a complete game against the Chicago White Sox to secure the first complete game of the MLB season.

“Sandy Alcantara threw the first complete game of the MLB season in a 93-pitch shutout to lead the Miami Marlins over the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Wednesday,” ESPN wrote.

The question that remains with Alcántara is whether he will still be on the roster after the trade deadline. There is some belief that it will depend on how Miami’s season unfolds. Regardless, the Marlins face a difficult decision.

“For the past few years, the Marlins have been shopping pitching almost constantly, even guys with multiple years of club control. Despite persistent rumors, Sandy Alcantara has usually been off the table, for different reasons at different times. As time goes on and we move closer to the end of his contract, the Marlins will have to make a decision, with still several ways for the situation to play out,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Darragh McDonald wrote.

If Alcántara does become available at the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to be one of the teams that pursues him.

“Sandy Alcántara has been phenomenal this season. If the Marlins opt to trade him, someone is going to get a star. He has been at No. 1 each week so far this season, but this week comes in at No. 2. This isn't because of anything he did, but because of a clear roster problem with the Red Sox,” SI’s Patrick McAvoy wrote.

The Dodgers already boast one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, but there is no such thing as too much depth. With injuries always a factor, pursuing Alcántara would make plenty of sense.

Alcántara also carries a relatively team-friendly contract compared to typical Dodgers spending. He is owed $56 million, which is modest by Los Angeles standards. The Marlins right-hander would further strengthen a rotation that already includes Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Glasnow.
