Big news for Dodgers fans and baseball lovers alike—Mookie Betts is on the verge of making his long-awaited return to the diamond. The superstar shortstop, who has been sidelined since April 4 with a right oblique strain, could be activated as early as Monday for a pivotal four-game series against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium.

Betts has been putting in the work during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, and his most recent outing on Saturday was a promising sign. Playing six innings at shortstop, he went 1-for-2 at the plate, showing that his swing and fielding are rounding back into form. According to The Athletic's Katie Woo, Betts is scheduled to travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday. If he wakes up without any lingering soreness, the Dodgers are expected to activate him in time for Monday's series opener.

Before the injury, Betts was still finding his rhythm at the plate, posting a .179/.281/.429 slash line with two home runs and a .710 OPS over eight games. While those numbers aren't what we're used to seeing from the four-time World Series champion, his two rehab games offered a glimpse of his potential bounce-back, with two hits in five at-bats, a walk, and two strikeouts.

Betts' return is a massive boost for a Dodgers lineup that has missed his elite bat and Gold Glove defense. But it also creates a roster crunch. To make room, the Dodgers will likely designate Santiago Espinal for assignment, though options like sending Alex Freeland or Hyeseong Kim back to Triple-A remain on the table. The decision gets even trickier when utility man Kiké Hernández returns from the IL later in May, meaning Freeland and Kim will need to keep proving their worth to hold onto their spots.

For now, all eyes are on Monday at Dodger Stadium. If Betts is cleared, it'll be a welcome sight for a team looking to build momentum against a division rival. And for fans, it's another reminder that having a healthy superstar in the lineup can change everything.
