The Los Angeles Dodgers finally broke their seven-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Angels with a commanding 6-0 victory in the Freeway Series opener at Angel Stadium on Friday night. Despite a late scratch of starting pitcher Blake Snell—who was placed back on the injured list—the Dodgers delivered a clean, powerful performance that snapped their skid against their crosstown rivals.
“Couldn’t beat these guys last year, couldn’t beat the Brewers last year [in the regular season],” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters after the game, per the Los Angeles Times. “So it was nice to beat these guys.”
The offensive spark came early and often. Center fielder Andy Pages ended his personal 0-for-13 slump with a three-run home run that put the Dodgers on the board and set the tone for the night. Third baseman Max Muncy followed in the fourth inning with his 12th home run of the season, pushing the lead to 4-0. Left fielder Teoscar Hernández capped the scoring in the sixth inning with a two-run blast—his first home run since April 15 against the New York Mets.
With Snell unavailable, the Dodgers turned to a bullpen-by-committee approach. Will Klein opened the game and pitched two strong innings, striking out two while allowing just one hit. From there, a parade of relievers—Edgardo Henriquez, Blake Treinen, Wyatt Mills, Kyle Hurt, Alex Vesia, Jack Dreyer, and Charlie Barnes—each tossed a scoreless inning to preserve the shutout. Vesia was the only reliever to surrender a hit but still managed a team-high three strikeouts in his outing.
The victory not only ended the Dodgers' losing streak against the Angels but also showcased the depth of their pitching staff and the timely power of their lineup. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at Angel Stadium for the second game of the series.
