The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing a roster crunch as superstar Mookie Betts prepares to return from the injured list on Monday after missing over five weeks with a strained oblique. With Betts set to rejoin the lineup, the team must decide whether to option infield prospect Alex Freeland or Hyeseong Kim, or designate veteran Santiago Espinal for assignment.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, manager Dave Roberts has been impressed with Kim's recent plate discipline. "I think that he's done a much better job of controlling the strike zone," Roberts said. "He's got the ability to put the bat on the ball, get hits, steal bases, play good defense. The plate discipline piece has been much better."

Katie Woo of The Athletic added an interesting wrinkle: Espinal's $2.5 million contract includes an advanced consent clause, allowing the team to release him within the first 45 days without paying the remainder of his salary. That clause has been restructured with an extended deadline, suggesting the Dodgers plan to keep Espinal for now, leaving Freeland and Kim as the likely candidates for demotion.

Meanwhile, Sunday's loss saw pitcher Justin Wrobleski battle through a tough outing after a bad throw opened the door to a four-run second inning. Despite the early setback, Wrobleski stayed in until two outs in the ninth. "It's just one half-inning of being pissed off about it, and then you've got to keep going back out there," he told Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times. "It's frustrating because now I look back and that's what cost me from having a good outing."

In other baseball news, the sport mourned the passing of Ted Turner at age 87. The legendary media mogul and former Atlanta Braves owner helped reshape the game during his tenure, as Marc Normandin of Baseball Prospectus highlighted in a recent retrospective.

For Dodgers fans, the return of a healthy Mookie Betts is the headline, but the ripple effects on the roster will be just as important to watch as the team navigates the next phase of the season.
