The Los Angeles Dodgers have once again become the center of trade deadline speculation, with insiders already pegging them as the most likely landing spot for an All-Star pitcher. It's a familiar narrative for a franchise that seems to be linked to every top-tier talent on the market—and for good reason.
Despite dealing with early-season injuries, the Dodgers have still managed to establish themselves as the clear frontrunners in the National League. Their depth, both on the field and in the farm system, gives them the flexibility to make a major splash when the trade deadline rolls around. With a loaded prospect pool, Los Angeles has the assets to acquire impact arms, including potential ace-caliber starters.
One name generating buzz is Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan. According to Patrick McAvoy of SI, Ryan is increasingly viewed as a more realistic trade target than Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal. "The Los Angeles Dodgers don't really need any additions. They will be just fine with the roster as is as the club starts to get healthier," McAvoy wrote. "If the Dodgers make a splash, it wouldn't be a shock to see them go out and add another starter simply to have even more depth. Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers would be a fun name to throw out for Los Angeles, but that just doesn't seem likely at all. It's much more likely the Minnesota Twins flip Ryan. He has a 3.72 ERA and would give the Dodgers more ammo."
The logic is sound. The Dodgers are already the best team in the league, but winning back-to-back-to-back World Series titles requires bold, aggressive moves. Andrew Friedman has never been shy about pulling the trigger when he sees a need, and adding a pitcher of Ryan's caliber would only deepen an already formidable rotation.
For Dodgers fans, the message is clear: expect the unexpected. The trade deadline is still months away, but the whispers are already growing louder. If Ryan—or another All-Star arm—becomes available, Los Angeles will almost certainly be at the front of the line.
