Excitement is building across Berks County as athletes prepare to chase gold—and state berths—at the District 3 Boys Track and Field Championships this weekend. The two-day showdown kicks off Friday at Shippensburg University and wraps up Saturday, with Berks hauling in an impressive 12 top seeds, including five for Oley Valley in Class 2A.

In Class 3A, the top five finishers earn tickets to the PIAA Championships next weekend at the same venue, while in 2A, only the top two automatically advance. But there's still hope for those who don't crack the top spots—competitors can also qualify by beating the state standard during the district meet.

Oley Valley is making some serious noise in 2A. Leading the charge are Ryan Gourley (3,200), Aspen Freed (110 hurdles), and Jacob Mackie (pole vault) as top seeds in individual events. The Lynx also locked down the top spot in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays—proving depth is their secret weapon.

Now, let's break down each event in 3A and 2A:

100 Meters: All eyes are on Wilson senior Jaiden Carpenter, who's chasing the District 3 sprint crown. He's the second seed (10.67) behind Ephrata senior Wright Young (10.64), but with times this tight, this race could come down to a lean at the line.

200 Meters: Carpenter, a West Chester commit, is the top seed here. Daniel Boone junior Cameron Cremi sits fourth-seeded at 21.70. Carpenter already swept the 100 and 200 at last week's BCIAA championships—expect more fireworks.

400 Meters: Berks is stacked in the quarter-mile, with three of the top five seeds. Twin Valley senior Ben Grundy is second at 48.86, while Conrad Weiser sophomore Collin Moore—fresh off a BCIAA win in 48.91—is third. Twin Valley's Dominic Summers rounds it out at fifth (49.2). Cumberland Valley junior Danny Hertzler leads the pack at 48.45.

800 Meters: Hershey's Joseph Murphy is the man to beat at 1:50.36. BCIAA champion Asher Madison of Conrad Weiser (1:56.82) is seeded ninth but could surprise.

1600 Meters: Murphy also tops the 1600, but only by three-hundredths of a second over Cedar Crest's Travis Furmanski. Gov. Mifflin's Seth Toal is sixth-seeded at 4:21.54—watch for him to make a move.

3200 Meters: Exeter senior Chase Choudhry owns the top 3A time (9:15.22) from the Hoka Henderson Invitational on May 1. Right behind him in that race was Gov. Mifflin's Seth Toal (9:15.74). Both are seniors, and while Toal took second at BCIAA (9:24.05) and Choudhry had an off day (fifth, 9:47.67), this rematch promises redemption.

110 Hurdles: BCIAA champion Mason Gruber of Hamburg is the second seed, just five-hundredths behind top-seeded Ryder Newlin of Ephrata (14.33 to 14.38). Schuylkill Valley's Carson Reali, second at BCIAA, is fifth at 14.56—plenty of speed in this field.

300 Hurdles: Red Lion senior Markus Edwards leads at 38.89. Wilson has two hurdlers in the top seven: BCIAA champ Colin Youtz (39.49) is seventh, and teammate Damian Greer is fourth (39.2). Keep an eye on these Bulldogs.

Relays: Wilson, anchored by Carpenter, is the top seed in the 4x100 at 41.83. With that kind of speed, they're poised to make a statement.

Whether you're tracking top seeds or rooting for underdogs, this weekend at Shippensburg is where champions are forged. Gear up, Berks—it's time to run, jump, and throw your way to glory.
