The District 3 baseball tournament is heating up, and the BCIAA champion Wilson Bulldogs are ready to make their mark. Seeded fourth in the Class 6A bracket, Wilson (14-6) kicks off its title quest at home on Friday, hosting 13th-seeded Northeastern (10-10) at 7 p.m. at Owls Field. It's a prime opportunity for the Bulldogs to flex their championship muscle after a dominant week.
Wilson is just one of eight Berks County teams punching tickets to the six-class tournament, showcasing the area's deep baseball talent. The Bulldogs are coming off a statement win, clinching the BCIAA title on Monday with a 10-0 thrashing of Muhlenberg in just six innings. Pitcher Jack Gabel stole the show with a complete-game shutout, setting the tone for a deep postseason run.
In the same 6A class, Muhlenberg (11-7) didn't let that loss dampen their spirits. As the 11th seed, they'll travel to face sixth-seeded Manheim Township on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The top of the bracket is stacked, with Hempfield (16-3) and Ephrata (15-5) earning the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively, along with first-round byes. Notably, defending 6A champion Gov. Mifflin (10-10) missed the cut, ranked 15th in the district's power rankings—just outside the top 14 that qualify.
Moving to Class 5A, Berks County brings two strong contenders. Exeter (14-6) snagged the seventh seed and will host 10th-seeded Spring Grove (11-9) on Friday at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, Twin Valley (12-8) is the ninth seed, hitting the road to face eighth-seeded New Oxford (13-7) at 4:30 p.m. Both teams have their sights set on toppling the top seeds, Palmyra (19-2) and Lower Dauphin (18-2), who await in later rounds.
Class 4A features Oley Valley as the sixth seed in an eight-team bracket that doesn't start until next week. The Lynx (15-4) travel to East Pennsboro (17-3) on Monday at 4:30 p.m. The top seeds here are undefeated Northern Lebanon (20-0) and Kennard-Dale (17-2), setting up a tough road for any challenger.
In Class 3A, Berks County dominates half of the six-team field. No. 3 Berks Catholic (14-5) hosts No. 6 Pequea Valley (12-8) on Monday at 4 p.m., while No. 4 Kutztown (13-7) welcomes No. 5 Wyomissing (11-8) at 6:30 p.m. at Kutztown Park. The top seeds, Bermudian Springs (18-2) and Trinity (16-4), earned byes straight to the semifinals, but the Berks squads are poised to shake things up.
