Corinthians kicked off their 2026 Copa Libertadores campaign in style, securing a crucial 2-0 away victory over Argentina's Platense this Thursday. The win at the Estadio Ciudad de Vicente López was doubly significant, marking not only a positive start in the continental tournament they famously won in 2012 but also the successful debut of new head coach Fernando Diniz.

The first half was a tense affair for the traveling Corinthians faithful, with goalkeeper Hugo Souza forced into a miraculous save to keep the scores level. After the break, however, Diniz's influence became clear as Timão seized control. The deadlock was broken by 21-year-old forward Kayke, a product of the club's academy and an early tactical bet by the new manager, who finished a beautiful assist from Rodrigo Garro.

Yuri Alberto soon doubled the lead, capitalizing on another precise pass from the influential Garro. Platense's challenge faded completely after a red card for a dangerous foul, allowing Corinthians to comfortably see out the match. The result immediately puts them at the top of Group E, providing perfect momentum ahead of a massive domestic clash: the Derby Paulista against rivals Palmeiras this Sunday.
