Legendary college basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale has shared a heartfelt update on his ongoing health journey, asking for prayers and positive thoughts as he awaits crucial medical results.
Taking to social media on Friday, April 10th, Vitale revealed he had just undergone a biopsy to investigate "abnormalities" discovered during recent routine tests. This marks his second health update in two days, keeping his legion of fans in the loop.
"Just leaving hospital after biopsy/now anesthesia has worn off," Vitale posted on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a photo of him in a wheelchair outside a medical facility. "Hope & pray for good results as they did study of my lungs where spots showed in Pet Scan & MRI's!"
In a previous update, the iconic voice of March Madness emphasized that he feels "great physically" and "sharp mentally." His doctors, however, recommended further testing after a PET scan, CAT scan, and two MRIs revealed concerning spots. The results of Friday's biopsy will determine the next steps in his treatment "roadmap."
This latest challenge is part of a difficult few years for Vitale, who has battled multiple forms of cancer. His triumphant return to the broadcast booth last year after being declared cancer-free was a celebrated moment in sports. He even called a pair of games this season alongside Charles Barkley, including a memorable appearance during the First Four of March Madness in Dayton.
Reflecting on his comeback earlier this year, an emotional Vitale told USA TODAY Sports, "I'm still doing games. It's a miracle. It's absolutely a miracle." The entire sports world now joins him in hoping for another positive outcome as he faces this new hurdle with his characteristic courage.
