MILWAUKEE — Two days after leaving the game in Mexico City with a dislocation of the joint near the top of his left finger, Adrian Del Castillo was back in the Diamondbacks lineup for the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, April 28.
Del Castillo isn't catching, though, and is the designated hitter. He was trying on gloves to test his comfort level prior to Tuesday's game.
"It's just a jammed finger, honestly that's kind of what it feels like," Del Castillo said. "Not comfortable but it's still good."
The joint had to be popped back in, Del Castillo said. The injury was the result of a foul tip.
"You talk about toughness and perseverance, it's a pretty good moment," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said of Del Castillo.

Lovullo said Perdomo was available off the bench, to some extent, after taking batting practice.
Right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen, hit in his throwing shoulder by a comebacker last Saturday in Mexico, did some throwing on the off day Monday and is scheduled for a bullpen session on Wednesday, April 29, Lovullo said. The plan for him is to make his next scheduled start.
In other injury updates, catcher Gabriel Moreno is still expected to return from an oblique injury on Friday, May 1, at Chicago. He got five at-bats as a DH on Monday in an extended spring training appearance and was scheduled to catch for five innings in Scottsdale on Tuesday.
First baseman Carlos Santana (right adductor strain) is getting live at-bats in extended spring training games, as is first baseman Tyler Locklear, who is coming off fractures to his left elbow and shoulder. Outfielder Jordan Lawlar (wrist) is able to track fly balls and run.
Lovullo took Monday's off day in Wisconsin to take a two-hour drive up to Green Bay to see Lambeau Field, home of the Packers. He's an admirer of legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi.
"Nobody better to learn from when you're talking about leadership," Lovullo said. "So I went up there and spent some time at the museum."
He also walked around the stadium though he couldn't get inside.
"I always appreciated how much Vince Lombardi despised losing," he said. "He thought winners win, and they do it consistently."
Diamondbacks’ infielder Ildemaro Vargas earned his first career National League Player of the Week award (April 20-26) in his 10th MLB season.
Diamondbacks RHP Merrill Kelly (1-1, 9.31) vs. Brewers RHP Chad Patrick (1-1, 2.35)
At American Family Field: Kelly was bombed by the White Sox in his most recent start, his second of the year, giving up eight runs in 4 1/3 innings. He allowed three home runs and walked three. … He was solid in his first start, holding the Orioles to two runs in 5 1/3 innings. … Kelly is averaging 91.9 mph with his fastball, the exact number he averaged each of the past two seasons. … Patrick was a fourth-round pick by the Diamondbacks in 2021 but was traded to the Athletics in July 2023 in exchange for IF Jace Peterson. He was traded to Milwaukee later that year. … Patrick has logged 142 2/3 innings in the majors since debuting last year and owns a 3.34 ERA. … He relies heavily on his cutter, throwing the pitch more than any other. Opponents are hitting just .156 off it this year and have whiffed on 29.5 percent of their swings.
