Diamondbacks try to stop 4-game road skid, play the Rangers

The Arizona Diamondbacks are hitting the road to face the Texas Rangers, hoping to snap a frustrating four-game road losing streak. The two teams meet Monday in what promises to be a compelling matchup between two clubs with nearly identical records—the Diamondbacks sit at 19-20, while the Rangers are just a game back at 19-21.

On the mound, it's a battle of right-handers with similar numbers. Mike Soroka (4-2, 4.14 ERA) takes the ball for Arizona, bringing 42 strikeouts and a 1.43 WHIP to the table. Texas counters with Nathan Eovaldi (4-4, 4.15 ERA), who has been slightly sharper with a 1.18 WHIP and 47 strikeouts. The betting lines reflect a close contest, with the Rangers listed as slight favorites at -140 and the over/under set at 7.5 runs.

The Rangers have found success at home, posting a 9-9 record in Arlington, and they've been particularly dangerous when they go deep—winning seven of 10 games when hitting at least two home runs. For the Diamondbacks, the key to ending their skid may be getting the bats going early: they're an impressive 14-3 when scoring five or more runs this season.

Keep an eye on Texas's Brandon Nimmo, who is hitting .277 with four home runs and 12 RBIs, and Josh Jung, who has been on fire lately with 15 hits in his last 42 at-bats, including a home run. For Arizona, Nolan Arenado leads the team with six home runs and a .435 slugging percentage, while Adrian Del Castillo has shown some pop with two homers in his last 32 at-bats.

Both teams are coming off shaky 10-game stretches. The Rangers went 5-5, hitting just .228 while being outscored by eight runs. The Diamondbacks have it worse, posting a 3-7 mark with a dismal .188 batting average and getting outscored by 10 runs.

Injury-wise, both clubs are banged up. Texas has several key players on the IL, including Carter Baumler (ribs), Robert Garcia (shoulder), and Josh Smith (glute), while Wyatt Langford and Cody Freeman are also sidelined. Arizona's list is even longer, with Carlos Santana (groin), Jordan Lawlar (wrist), and Corbin Burnes (elbow) among the many missing from action.

This series opener offers both teams a chance to reset—the Rangers looking to build on their home-field advantage, and the Diamondbacks desperate to turn their road fortunes around. It's the kind of early-season matchup that can set the tone for the weeks ahead.
