The Tigers fired Triple-A manager Gabe Alvarez after an investigation into alleged harassment claims by a female employee, The Athletic reported.

The Detroit Tigers have parted ways with Triple-A manager Gabe Alvarez following an investigation into alleged harassment claims made by a female employee, according to a report from The Athletic on Wednesday.

The Tigers announced on Tuesday that Alvarez's contract had been terminated, citing an undisclosed "violation of club policy." While the organization didn't elaborate further, sources told The Athletic that Alvarez was let go after a human resources investigation into the complaint.

Alvarez, 52, was in his second season at the helm of the Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers' top affiliate. The team had posted a respectable 17-16 record under his leadership before the news broke. Neither the Tigers nor Alvarez—or his representatives—responded to requests for comment, leaving the full details of the investigation under wraps.

For baseball fans, Alvarez's name might ring a bell from his playing days. A career .222 hitter, he spent parts of three seasons in the majors with the Tigers (1998-2000) and San Diego Padres (2000), tallying seven home runs and 33 RBIs in 92 games. Over nine minor league seasons, he was a more consistent force, batting .278 with 114 homers.

Drafted in the second round out of the University of Southern California in 1995, Alvarez transitioned into coaching after his playing career, serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater starting in 2010. The Tigers brought him into their system as manager of the Double-A Erie SeaWolves in 2022, and he earned a promotion to Toledo in October 2024—a move that now stands as a brief chapter in the organization's coaching ranks.

This incident underscores the ongoing emphasis on workplace conduct across professional sports, as teams continue to prioritize safe and respectful environments for all employees.
