Second baseman Gleyber Torres left the Tigers’ 5-1 win over the Texas Rangers Saturday night in the fourth inning with tightness in his left side.

The Detroit Tigers secured a decisive 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night, but the win came with a concerning twist as second baseman Gleyber Torres exited early due to left side tightness.

Torres left the game in the fourth inning, cutting short what had been a productive night at the plate. Before his departure, he helped the Tigers build a commanding 5-0 lead in front of 33,373 fans at a chilly Comerica Park.

The trouble began in the first inning when Torres was thrown out at home plate attempting to score from second on a Riley Greene base hit. He slid headfirst and tried to evade the tag, staying in the game initially. He even delivered an RBI single in the second inning. However, when the Tigers took the field for the top of the fourth, Hao-Yu Lee replaced him at second base while Torres headed to the trainer's room for evaluation.

Despite the early setback, Detroit’s offense kept rolling. After Torres was thrown out by Rangers right fielder Ezequiel Duran—a play that threatened to kill a scoring opportunity—Dillon Dingler stepped up. With two on and two out, Dingler fell behind 1-2 before launching a slider deep into the night. The ball traveled 443 feet inside the left-field foul pole for his sixth home run of the season, electrifying the crowd.

The Tigers capitalized on Rangers starter Kumar Rocker's inability to control the running game, stealing a season-high four bases. Wenceel Perez led the charge with two steals, while Kevin McGonigle and Colt Keith each swiped one. In the second inning, Perez singled and stole second with such a big jump that catcher Danny Jansen clutched the ball without even attempting a throw. McGonigle cashed in that run with a single, then promptly stole second himself. Torres followed with a bloop single to right to bring McGonigle home.

On the mound, right-hander Keider Montero delivered a gritty performance. While he didn't have his sharpest stuff on a cold night—recording just two strikeouts and six whiffs on 41 swings—he attacked the strike zone relentlessly. The aggressive Rangers lineup made early contact, but Montero induced nine fly balls and kept the damage minimal. The 22 balls put in play against him averaged 90.8 mph exit velocity, but he navigated traffic effectively to preserve the lead.

For Tigers fans, the win is encouraging, but Torres's injury adds a layer of uncertainty. As the team continues its push, all eyes will be on the second baseman's recovery status in the coming days.
