The Detroit Lions are gearing up for a fresh new look on the gridiron, and fans have plenty to be excited about. In 2026, the Lions will debut a brand-new alternate uniform as part of the NFL's Nike Rivalries collection, adding a stylish chapter to their wardrobe rotation. After rocking the popular "Motor City Muscle" alternates in recent seasons—including a standout Christmas Day matchup against the Minnesota Vikings—Detroit is ready for an upgrade.
The Rivalries collection first hit the field in 2025, featuring teams from the AFC East and NFC West. Now, the Lions are stepping into the spotlight as part of the second wave. Lions president and CEO Rod Wood confirmed the news back in March during the league's annual spring meeting, telling the Detroit Free Press that the team would be joining the program. The catch? Detroit can only wear these uniforms once per season, and it must be during a home game against a division rival—think the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, or Minnesota Vikings.
Wood recently shared more details with reporter Brad Galli, teasing what fans can expect. "Yeah, we're the second year of the Rivalry uniforms," Wood explained. "You get to wear them once at a home game against one of your division opponents. Once the schedule comes out in May and we know who we're playing, we'll sit down and figure out the best time to unveil them." He added, "I'm pretty excited about them. They're kind of consistent with our colors and our look, but with a little modern twist that the fans are going to like. That was a process that we went through over several years with Nike."
The Lions will learn their full 2026 schedule on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET during the NFL schedule release, setting the stage for which divisional showdown will get the Rivalries treatment. For now, fans can look forward to a uniform that honors Detroit's iconic style while adding a fresh, modern edge—perfect for repping their team in style, whether at Ford Field or on the go.
