The young talent, son of former Leeds and Crystal Palace midfielder Shaun Derry, finally got his chance to shine from the opening whistle against Nottingham Forest on Monday. But just before halftime, a clash of heads with Forest defender Zach Abbott in the 45th minute brought the match to a tense halt.

Medical staff rushed onto the pitch, administering oxygen before carefully lifting Derry onto a stretcher. The lengthy stoppage had fans and teammates holding their breath. Chelsea later confirmed the teenager was "conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks" at St Mary's Hospital.

Despite the scare, Derry's spirit remained unshaken. Taking to social media, he wrote: "A dream come true to start at Stamford Bridge for my Premier League debut. I'd like to thank all the Chelsea medical staff, everyone at St Mary's Hospital, my teammates, and all the fans for their great support. I can't wait to be back playing in front of everyone very soon."

Derry had previously made two FA Cup appearances off the bench, but this was his first taste of Premier League action from the start. His departure triggered a concussion substitution, with Liam Delap taking his place—a move allowed under Premier League rules, which permit one such replacement per match without counting toward the usual three substitutions.

The drama didn't end there. In the second half, Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez collided nastily, but Forest confirmed their midfielder was not substituted for concussion.
