The decisive moment came in the 55th minute when Ryan Brennan converted from the penalty spot, punishing Derry for a lack of cutting edge in the final third. Despite enjoying periods of possession and working their way into promising positions, the visitors simply couldn't find the finishing touch that has eluded them all season.

"It was very hard to be critical of them tonight, but ultimately the result is what everybody's going to look at," Lynch admitted. "We're actually getting into really good areas, but we're not being clinical, and that's hugely frustrating for us. We tried to get everybody on the pitch who's been scoring goals and be as positive as we can. For long periods, we get into the areas, but that final piece is missing."

It's been a challenging campaign for Derry, who have managed just four wins from their opening 16 games alongside seven draws—a record that speaks to their inconsistency in front of goal. With European ambitions still within reach, the pressure is mounting to turn dominance into results.

"We have to start winning games, we know that," Lynch added. "We're not sugar-coating that. We were unbeaten for six games, but we need to start winning them. We need to put our dominance into wins and goals, and that's hugely frustrating."

For Derry City, the message is clear: style points don't matter if you can't find the back of the net. As the season progresses, finding that clinical edge will be the difference between a push for Europe and another year of what-ifs.
