The SB Nation Writer’s Mock Draft is rolling toward its conclusion. If you remember, I presciently traded Dexter Lawrence to the Chicago Bears for the 25th pick in the SBN mock and a 2027 second-round pick, getting that done well before the Giants sent the disgruntled defensive tackle to the Cincinnati Bengals for the 10th pick in this year’s draft.
I have to be honest that I was hoping Ohio State defensive tackle Kayden McDonald was available. I figured that would be a nice way to start the reconstruction of the Lawrence-less line. He was not.
Having taken Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles at No. 5, my next option was to add a receiving weapon for quarterback Jaxson Dart. There were several here, including KC Concepcion and Omar Cooper.
I chose wide receiver Denzel Boston to give Dart a big-bodied, physical, 50-50 catch receiver to complement Malik Nabers.
I like this pick for the Giants because it is a completely new skillset added to the wide receiver room that they did not have entering the draft. There’s a lot of speed in that room for Dart to throw to but Malik Nabers (coming off a torn ACL) is the only player with the chops to go up and consistently make plays in the end zone. Boston gives New York another set of strong hands attached to a big body who knows how to use it when fighting through contact.
I think this pick will make life quite a bit easier for Dart as he continues to grow into being a NFL quarterback.
A good-sized athlete, Boston plays big and balanced with vacuum hands (3.1 percent drop rate). He treats the catch point like he’s a power forward in the paint, boxing out and using his rangy frame and focus to secure the football. Ball placement wasn’t a strength of Washington quarterbacks, which created opportunities for Boston to show off his catch radius. He doesn’t have the juice to simply run by NFL man coverage, and he won’t be known for his after-the-catch skills, but he is a proven chain-mover (79 percent of his 2025 catches resulted in either a first down or touchdown). Overall, Boston builds his speed with smooth, long strides andnaturally adjusts with the hand strength of a ball winner, which should quickly earn him the trust of an NFLquarterback. With his ability to win inside or outside, his game has shades of 2025 Houston Texans draft pick Jayden Higgins.
