Bryson DeChambeau has revealed an unexpected backup plan if LIV Golf doesn't survive: he'll dedicate himself full-time to growing his YouTube channel and only tee it up in tournaments that truly want him.
The two-time US Open champion's candid comments come as the breakaway league faces an uncertain future. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund recently announced it will withdraw its multibillion-dollar backing at the end of the year, sending shockwaves through the golf world.
"I was completely shocked," DeChambeau admitted Tuesday ahead of LIV's event at Trump National Golf Club. The 32-year-old had believed the PIF would finance LIV through 2032, but now the league is scrambling to find replacement investment under a new independent board.
DeChambeau's own future is equally uncertain. His LIV contract expires at the end of this season, and he was reportedly seeking a massive $500 million deal before the funding news broke. He's dismissed rumors of an early exit as "completely untrue," but his vision for what comes next is crystal clear.
"I'd love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more," DeChambeau told ESPN. "I'd love to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages, giving the world more reason to watch. And then I'd love to play tournaments that want me."
It's a remarkable pivot for a player who was once the face of the PGA Tour's biggest rival. DeChambeau joined LIV in 2022, lured by the league's massive paydays that caused a seismic split in professional golf. He even turned down a chance to return to the PGA Tour earlier this year under a returning member program.
Despite the chaos, DeChambeau remains focused on the bigger picture. "The egos need to get dropped," he said. "Everybody needs to come in with a level-headed playing field, with an opportunistic mindset to grow the game of golf. That's why I came over here. That's why I do what I do on YouTube."
For now, the golf world watches and waits. But one thing's certain: whether on the course or behind a camera, Bryson DeChambeau is playing by his own rules.
