Deadzone Eagles Debate: Which Super Bowl victory was better?

Are you a 52 fan? Or a 59 person? These are important questions.

Let's be honest—after the NFL Draft wraps up, the football calendar hits a bit of a lull. Free agency is mostly settled, draft picks are signing deals and hitting OTAs, and the only real Eagles buzz we might get in the coming weeks is that inevitable A.J. Brown trade rumor to the Patriots. But summer is prime time for football debates, and there's no shortage of topics to chew over when it comes to your Birds. That's why I'm launching "The Deadzone Debates"—a weekly series where we tackle the big questions.

This week's topic hit me as I was getting dressed the other day: I pulled on my Eagles Super Bowl LIX Champions T-shirt, then layered my Super Bowl LII sweatshirt over it. And I had to ask myself—which title is better? Which one is your favorite?

Let's start with Super Bowl LII. The first time is always the sweetest. After 51 Super Bowls and 57 years since their last championship in 1960, the Eagles were finally kings of the NFL. Generations of fans got their long-awaited wish. Many of us lived through some dark, dark seasons to get there—and plenty of Birds fans never got to see it happen. That feeling? It's almost impossible to top.

And then there's the game itself. It gave us some of the most legendary plays in NFL history. The Philly Special isn't just etched into Eagles lore—it's part of the sport's permanent highlight reel. You've got Zach Ertz's go-ahead touchdown, and of course, Brandon Graham's strip sack of Tom Brady. Three iconic moments in one game. Hard to beat that.

It was also the ultimate Philadelphia underdog story. Losing Carson Wentz—the presumptive NFL MVP—a month before the end of the season felt like a devastating blow that would sink their Super Bowl hopes. Nick Foles? Were we really supposed to believe he could pull it off? But he did, and that Cinderella run is forever part of Eagles history.

But then there's Super Bowl LIX. A more complete team, a more dominant performance. This wasn't about surviving or pulling off miracles—it was about proving they belonged among the NFL's elite. The defense was suffocating, the offense was explosive, and the victory felt like validation for a franchise that had built something sustainable. Plus, winning it in the modern era, with all the pressure and expectations, carries its own kind of weight.

So, which side are you on? Are you a 52 fan, or a 59 person? Drop your take in the comments, because this is a debate worth having all summer long.
